Vertical Crystal Rod Staircase Chandelier

Design study — not presented as a completed installation.

Vertical crystal rod chandelier in a double-height staircase void

Project Introduction

The Vision

A slender vertical composition of clear and warm-tinted crystal rods is threaded by flowing gold-tone lines, creating a strong focal axis for a double-height stair void.

This visual study develops a tall chandelier around the vertical movement of a staircase. Clear and warm-tinted rods descend in varied lengths from a circular canopy, while slender looping lines break the symmetry with a gentle spiral.

The narrow composition is intended to occupy the centre of a stair void without masking the architecture. Repeated vertical elements connect upper and lower viewpoints, while the looping gold-tone lines add a slower counter-rhythm from one level to the next.

The Space

The visual question is how to give a high stairwell a clear centre without filling the surrounding circulation with a bulky fixture. The chandelier needs to remain legible from the entry floor, stair flight and upper landing, while its long drop avoids reading as a rigid cylinder.

Light in Architecture

A compact ceiling plate gathers the suspension points, then releases the rods through a long tapered profile. Alternating clear and warm tones establish depth, while curved gold-tone lines slow the vertical rhythm and allow light and views to pass through the outer layer.
